From the very beginning, this book was a winner to me. I read the first one, The Cats That Surfed the Web, and 'got right into' this one. Finished it over the week-end and am really looking forward to the 3rd one this year. Katz is a great lead character, and any cat lover will love this one.

This is the second in a cozy mystery series featuring a woman that will inherit a fortune if she takes care of the orphaned cat in her deceased relative’s home. I found book 2 a slight improvement over the first book but not enough to bump it to 4 stars. There was still plenty of cat “talk” but less than book 1 (unless I've become accustom to it since I read them back to back). It read more quickly than the first. Each book had its own solved mysteries, but there is also carry over of secondary stories from book to book. I do not believe book 2 would be readable without having the background in book 1.[spoiler alert (slight)]She has conflicted feelings about two men. I guess this is the thing since Evanvich's Stephanie has strung 2 men along for over 20 books, as has Fluke’s Hannah for almost as many books.I still have a nit about the titles not having much to do with the book and its mystery. For book 1 there are cats and maybe they somehow surfed the web but the story didn't really revolve around that. For book 2 there are cats and there are storms but again, the story didn't really revolve around that.I expect that this series will not last more than 4 or 6 books because once the year is up, she’ll inherit and the main premise will be gone regarding people trying to kill her and the cat for their share of the money.I purchased this one for 99¢ too and will read the third book only if it drops from its current price, or borrow it. There are better books and things for my amazon gift certificate balance.Format: purchased eBook (99¢)

I just finished reading the second book in "The Cats that" series by Karen Anne Golden. So far, this has been an entertaining and easy to read series. I'm having a great deal of fun following the happenings in the life of Katherine (Katz) Kendall, her new friends and acquaintances (some of who may be criminals - even murderers!), potential love interests, and especially her cats--I am loving the cats! They have their own large personalities, likes and dislikes and specific catspeak. I don't do spoilers, since I don't like reading them. I suffer from (sometimes severe) insomnia,so I read a lot at bedtime. This has been the perfect series to read. Ms. Golden's writing style is calming to me, even if Katz has just come upon a murder victim--I know it sounds odd, but it's true. I will stay awake to read because I am interested in reading more, not because my brain is too excited to sleep. It makes a big difference. I will now go and download the next book in the series. Keep on writing, Ms. Golden, and I will keep on reading. Thanks!

People this is a real page turner, it will have you on the edge of your seat. It was so good I read it in one week end, I just had to find out. There are the same cats and once again Abby's life is threatened,Kaz'st room is ram shacked, even though she had all the house locks changed, someone is still getting in. Colleen has gone back to N.Y. During a tornado Katz, gather up her cats and go to the basement. She is hit on the head with something and is knocked out. When she comes to she finds this time, not a body but a skull, who does it belong to. Naturally her cats give her clues, this time she pays more attention to what they are trying to tell her. Katz, finds out something about her great uncle who disappeared eons ago and a mysterious ledger that she finds in the attic. People you have to read this, it will have you on the edge of your seat. You just might do as I did and continue reading it until the end. Oh yeah, there is a happy reunion. You have to read it to find out who. Now I am starting the "The cat who told a fortune" I'll let you know how it is.

This is an instance of a book being TOO cozy. The writing is technically adequate, but stylistically leaves much to be desired. So much possibility with character development and situation descriptions was simply not fulfilled. The story had much to offer but in most cases, the author did not provide much depth. I had the first two on my Kindle and erred in reading #2 first - it obviously continued the story begun in #1. Will read the first just to see if it has more to it than this one. The involvement of the cats in the plot is OK but I really would have liked to have learned more of the people and places.

At the end of my review of the first book I said this one was less than 100 pages. That must have been a glitch in my reader because the next day it showed that it was a full book. But it will be the last one in this series that I read. This one is also wordy and awkward. I don't know if the author is a preteen or if it is written for preteens but the main character asks for explanations for rather common words and phrases. There was even an entire paragraph on how to start a car and put it in gear!I think there are some really great ideas in this series, but I will stick with better written ones.

I have been enjoying this series. I loved this book The Cats That Chased the Storm. It was, in my opinion, better than the first one. What interested me in starting this series was that I am a mid west gal and I love cats and Victorian homes and mystery books so it seemed right up my alley. I love reading all the cat's antics as well as trying to figure out the mystery. I have been reading these books in 1-2 days so they are very fast reads. I have already purchased and read the book after this one in the series. I think if you get into the series you will be hooked and want to read the rest.

This must be my 10th time to read this. Every time a new book in the series comes out I read them from the first. I really love them. Now Katz has a new love interest beginning in this book. If you like a cozy mystery and enjoy reading about clever cats this is a series I'd definitely recommend. I absolutely love it.
