This was great. Looking at the Star Wars saga as it relates to Leia's life might be my new favorite thing.Presented as an in-world biography, the book really focused on Leia's incredible strength as she continues to fight for what's right even after continued losing everything over and over. Reading this in the wake of Carrie Fisher's sudden passing was more than a little emotional.It was full of fun tidbits about minor film characters like Breha (I'm gonna need a whole movie about her and secret fighting skills asap Disney), cute illustrations, and mini-bios that included lines like "[Han Solo] is perhaps best known as the husband of General Leia Organa". Oh yeah, and cover art by Phil Noto. It's like Disney and Scholastic read my Christmas list. ;)Also this book somehow did a better job at explaining things than the movies themselves? Things like Anakin and Padme's romance actually sounding plausible, the way the New Republic, Resistance and First Order worked actually made sense (and there was emotional weight given to the destruction of Hosnian Prime? Whaaaat).I kind of want to buy a copy of this for every child I know.

I think that Dr. Damour's first book "Untangled" is absolutely fantastic, and I have pulled it off my self several times a year since buying it. The chapter on romance and dating has been particularly helpful to me. I preordered "Under Pressure" and am so happy that I got it on the same day it was released. Thanks Amazon!Both of my daughers (19 and 16) have anxiety and both have had episodes of panic - many, many episodes in the case of the older daughter. For anxiety as severe as hers, this book was not especially useful, which is one reason for my 4 start review.That said, for every day - and occasional extreme - stress this book has great guidance. Dr. Damour divded the book into 1) Coming to Terms with Stress and Anxiety, 2) Girls at Home (that is stressors that are created or acted out in the family) 3) Girls Among Girls 4) Girls Among Boys 5) Girls at School and 6) Girls in the Culture. Each chapter was full of great ideas, and I highlighted a lot. I am in school studying for high school teaching certificate, and I found the chapter "Girls at School" to be helpful in thnking about my own girls and also thinking about how to make my future classroom less needlessly stressful.I also appreciate that Dr. Damour talks about advice she has given that she now thinks was dumb of her. As a mother parenting in the moment, I appreciate being reassured that even experts make lousy choices sometimes.So to the other reason I only gave the book 4 stars: I feel like it was stretched / padded in places. Dr. Damour likes to use true-to-life examples in her book, but in this text, much more than in "Untangled", some of those true life details are very, very extraneous. I can't find it now, but there were two paragraphs in which she set the stage for meeting up with a friend to discuss the friend's daughter. The setting the stage part described waiting in line at the cafeteria, getting their food, finding a table and then catching up *before* she actually gets to the point: the friend's concern about her daughter. Examples like this make me think that the editor should have been more free with the red pen. And, just so you're aware, although the book is 261 pages long, the actual book only goes to page 220. The remainder are the notes, recommended readings for adults and girls, and the index.My final take away: Absolutely buy this book, but for me it's not a 5 star book like "Untangled."

This was a quick and engaging read, which I needed, and gave me some practical information to share with my daughter about reframing her school-based anxiety. I’m recommending it to every friend I have with a teenaged daughter.

If you have a teen (or child who will someday be a teen) in your life. You need to read this book AND Untangled. I am so better prepared to enter the teen years with my currently 11 y/o daughter based on the information and facts and metaphors and scripts provided by Lisa DAmour in these books. Do yourself a favor and READ them ASAP! (then re-read them).

Devoured this book! Dog-eared pages - notes in the margins - read parts out loud to my husband. Perhaps what I appreciate most is the clear call to empower our daughters by making stress and anxiety part of the growth process. Thanks for challenging parents and daughters alike. Just excellent!

The book is really great.Wow! I'm so glad someone had the foresight to preserve the Boundary Waters Canoe Area!

First thing to consider is that this is not a nature but a history book. Although there is "Quetico-Superior" in the title, the book mainly discusses the U.S. portion of the wilderness, the information about Quetico Provincial Park being rather scarce. The book tells the story of the long process of protecting the wilderness.The text is very detailed, giving opinions and writings of numerous persons and organizations, episodes which describe given persons, board feet of lumber, how much was asked for lands aqcuired for the park, details in the court etc. 10 pages of historical photos are included.The high point is the story of E.W. Backus and his dam plan. Excellent writing! After finishing it, I admit I felt respect and even pity for this man who wanted to destroy the wilderness. Another excellent part is the end where Searle expresses final thoughts about the protagonists, the great conservationists Oberholtzer, Hubachek, Olson, Kelly and Winston. Some other parts are not equally well written being rather catalog-like. The author says he has tried to be neutral but does not succeed always. Anyway, the story brilliantly shows how in the eternal fight between the conservationists and the exploiters, the latters are always the party that is ready to lie in the court and to explode bombs at the homes of their opponents.

This history book chronicles conservationists' epic struggle to create and preserve the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). The author's meticulous research and names will make one feel like you're in a time machine, witnessing a decades-long political battle between commerce and conservation. The book also discusses the evolving thinking regarding wilderness management, and how public access has arguably become crucial to ensuring public support for wilderness areas. Readers who love history and the BWCA will surely enjoy this book.

very interesting and educational

Would recommend this book to any law student. Plan to use the book in an undergraduate legal studies class. Deals in an accessible fashion with some "deep" subjects.

The topic is a great one, and there's enough depth to make the book useful. The perspective is entirely manly, though, without even a hint that feminist epistemology might even exist. Also, the author is apparently a law professor, but he can't seem to tell the difference between ontology and definition. Maybe he's trying to be thought-provoking, but the bogus arguments get pretty annoying after a while.

This book talks about puzzles in the law, with very interesting stories, and very good reasoning. The author gives powerful argument for the intricacy and perversity of the law, but just wasted many pages on tiny details.

I am a fan of all of Leo Katz's books -- you can learn more from each page of this then many casebooks combined. Despite the engaging and entertaining style of the book, it is a deep and important work of legal theory.Very roughly, Katz argues that the often strange structure of the law has more to do with Arrow's impossibility theorem then people have realized. Its an important idea and he delivers it in a very readable and enjoyable way.

Well written, an easy read. a grand adventure by one of the 20th centuries premiere adventurers. A interesting trip through the culture and geography of India.

Sir Edmund Hillary pointed out during his life that it wasn't the size of our adventures that mattered, but that we kept on having them. And certainly he had a life packed full of adventure.This book tells the tale of one of his post Everest ascent adventures where he took part in/led a joint New Zealand & Indian venture to take jet boats from the mouth of the Ganga River as far upstream as possible before switching to land transport and climbing some suitable mountain. The idea wasn't to take on some extreme mountain and in fact they switched their target peak due to information obtained in a recce. Irrespective, the adventure was obviously partly a bit of sponsored tom-foolery and partly a genuine celebration of India and her spirit and trying a different mode of transport to tackle the Ganga in a novel way as well as encompassing the many faces of India.There is some background but it doesn't become tedious, there is effusive praise for team members and also some self-deprecating comments which make Hillary more human. His genuine assessment of his own abilities as they were at the time compared to the younger members of his team is interesting and the amount of time the spends discussing the various contributions made by the team members is welcome. The level of support that was required and the way the Indian government and the India Oil company came through to provide this in a very organised fashion is well illustrated, quite simply without the Indian component the exercise would have been either prohibitively expensive or downright impossible as things stood in the 1970's.There are a few maps and sketches of some of the more memorable rapids in the book and having been on jet boats a few times personally the idea of going up these sorts of rapids in them added to the allure of the book for me. Several pages of photographs show both the team members and some of the scenery and the fact the book ends with some drama adds to it (though something tells me Sir Edmund would have preferred to skip the drama!).There aren't many downsides and I'm surprised there is only one other review on the work at the time of writing. Perhaps it's just the fact that a bunch of guys going up a river in the 1970's hasn't appealed to a broader readership. It's a pity as it is a good tale and not overlong. Definitely a book for those who like adventure travel.
