The Right Rev. Bishop Swing came to Kaua'i and spoke at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration that our interfaith group produces annually. He also spoke to a small group of us about his vision of a United Religions, and the topsy turvy, marvelous, intriguing, satisfying, frustrating journey that has taken on. I too have been on a microcosm of that journey. I believe that at our core we were created spiritually the same. I have researched different religions for years, and believe as Gandhi did that we can achieve connection with God by following any of the major great ones; and I believe many of the smaller ones too, created around the personal experiences of saintly people. I have even created a spiritual quest game using quotations from these religions, philosophers and holy folk. I love the idea of the interfaith "Cooperation Circles" that are all over the world caring for her, and helping others. I loved Bishop Swing's humor and writing style as well.
I am full of respectful awe in all Bishop William E. Swing with his wife Mary Taylor Swing accomplished and all they hope to accomplish with the United Religions as it evolves from the United Religions Initiative into the UR. I was not prepared for the magnitude of their vision and the ways they and their fellow travelers on this journey implemented the shared vision of world peace. They have broken fresh ground and seeded a future harvest. They have awakened to a vision and struggled and sought its coming into being with all their abilities and all their resources, tangible and intangible.submitted by Carole Koepke Brown
Recommended to our church book group. Entertaining and easy read about one man's vision and his incredible journey in making it real. Definitely worth the read.
i loved it.the bishop passed up an opportunity to become the presiding bishop of the u.s. and went into personal debt beyond his means in order to make this wonderful and important idea come true. in the process, he engages with notable religious leaders around the world.what a project !!
In this book the author demonstrates an ability to understand that all religions do not have to agree on anything but that there is one God and each of the messengers taught one major lesson - LOVE.
Great reading and a great true story!
Thank God there are those seeking peace and respect for all religions, and that these groups are continuing to grow at the grassroots level all over the world. I so respect Bishop Swing's vision and his willingness to follow it in the face of initial rejection. A book well worth reading and a cause worth joining.
