Amazon.com Review
Montana is a wingshooter's smorgasbord. What's been lacking is a menu. Not any more. Chuck and Ben have pooled their wingshooting savvy into the complete guide to wingshooting Montana. Includes maps, graphs, tips, and technique sections. They evaluate the hunting in each section of the state-what species are present, in what numbers, where to go, and when to go there. They tell you what the towns have to offer the out-of-state hunter (or the resident, for that matter.) Covers sage grouse, Hungarian partridge, pheasant, sharptails, blue, ruffed and spruce grouse, Merriam's turkey, ducks, and geese. With this guide, you can virtually visit Montana "cold" and find a place to hunt the species you want, and nearly be assured of a good hunt. If you're thinking of expanding your horizons to the Big Sky Country, this book is a must. 278 pages.

As noted outdoor writer Charley Waterman says in the book's forward, "...when a hunter has read most of it, there will be very, very few people who will know as much about Montana shotgunning as he or she does." -- Dave Books, Montana Outdoors

This is a good book for beginners in bird hunting. It didn't really meet my expectations in terms of providing information on where to hunt. It has some very general information on hunting locations, but it's not much more detailed than than the information on the Montana FWP website. So, for beginners or young people this would make a good read, for the veterans out there, it's unlikely you will get much out of it.
Bird hunters planning a trip to Montana there is no better way to start than with this book. How could you go wrong? Nobody knows Montana bird hunting better than Ben Williams; Chuck Johnson brings over two decades experience to the table. Williams and Johnson not only know Montana bird hunting but have the writing skills necessary to convey a clear, concise game plan that will put more birds in the bag. Up to date distribution maps, seasonal changes in habitat preferences, interesting facts, habits and behaviors, locating hunting areas, methods and strategies, reading sign, dogs, shot size and choke suggestions, even tips on how best to take care of and prepare for the table. I've relied on this book now for over a dozen years and found the information to be spot on. With over 50 years experience I once thought knew pretty much everything I needed but with this book in hand discovered "even an old dog can learn new tricks. Trust me, you need this book...chuckr
Great guidebook and tips on finding birds
This book is full of worthless, outdated information. A free map of Montana, a current Free pamphlet from Montana Fish and Wildlife, and a bird book would be more useful. There are no actual detailed locations on where to hunt. Just vague county maps showing where birds might be. Nothing useful about block management either. Not at all what I had hoped for.
