This seems to be a good introductory book in to the world of signing with a baby. There aren't too many signs to memorize and the illustrations are adorable. We will see if it works!
My son was just so adorable. More than anything he wanted food and toys but knowing his own opinion was a revelation!
We got this book in addition to two others in the hopes of teaching our son sign language. When flipping through the first two books I became a little overwhelmed, but then I got to this one... it is perfect for beginning to learn sign language. It has 14 very basic and often used signs.I started doing these signs when my son was about 4 1/2 months old. Most commonly 'milk'. He is now 6 1/2 months and already giggles and gets VERY excited when I make the sign to him, he knows whats coming! :)I look forward to him being able to sign back to me one day!We have now mastered all 14 of these signs and use them every day and have now moved on to the next books!
I love this book. It has 13 words/phrases including: milk, help me, all done, diaper, more, dog, cat, it hurts, mommy & daddy.Each page has both a picture as well as a short easy-to-follow description of how to correctly use the sign. This definitely has the important words that I want my son to be able to communicate. Although, it would be nice to have please and thank you.The pictures are great, though really, he is learning the signs best through using them in context. This is mostly just helpful to learn the words and reinforce them.
We used this book to help our daughter communicate with us, as she is 16 months old right now, and have been using this since she was 10 months old. She has been able to tell us things like she is hungry or tired, and what she would like to eat. Very useful for parents of children who don't talk yet.
I absolutely love this book. Baby signs are important for baby to learn before they can communicate effectively. Since I use the internet a ton I just used a Pinterest article I found to use signs but I like this better so baby can see too and hold the book and hit it. Let's face it, she just likes the colors at 3 months. I got the board book and have been teaching my daughter when I read and she sits in the bumbo. She really loves this book. Dimensions don't really work for me so I compared it to a wipes case for an idea of the size of the book. Each page is big and bright which is great for not only baby but the parent too!There are 13 signs illustrated in this book and they are easy to learn. Out of the 13 signs I feel they are extremely important as the first few signs they learn. I just wish there were more which is why I took off a star. Yes it teaches more, diaper, dog, cat, all done mommy, daddy, sleepy, book, etc but I would have liked to see "please, thank you, and hungry, " I can teach those but I would have rather had them in this book so we can learn them all at once
Signs: Milk, Water, More, All done, Diaper, Dog, Cat, Hurt, Help, Mom, Dad, Book, Sleep. Pictures are not easy for my toddler to understand what sign it's supposed to be. Different sign for dog then we learned. We were taught to pat your leg, this one says to pant.
Purchased as a gift for my sister and niece, and both of them loved it! My family has used sign language for each of the kids in the next generation and it has helped empower the kids. It even managed some tantrums because they were able to communicate better instead of getting frustrated by limitations in their ability to express themselves.
Great helper for teaching baby basic signs. She's 17 months now & still loves reading this book! We started at 6 months
