When Atkinson first introduced the Keto diet, menus were simple. Easy to shop for and make. Now it's called KETO and the recipes are complicated, ingredient intense and time consuming. I don't have the time or the interest in cooking. I don't mind broiling, sauteing. But adding all that stuff to my shopping list which I'll never use. NO. So if you have lots of seasoning and love to spend an hour at the stove, go for it. Also, the recipes are for 4 people. I'm only one. What do I do with the other 3 portions?

An helpful book. A lot of information was learned about cooking. In this book there are good recipes for every day. Most of the recipes i wanted to test in practice, and with confidence i will say that this is the best thing i did, it turned out very tasty. This book is splendid. My son found this book in the library and it was his favorite book. I was unable to find it elsewhere and have had this on my shopping list for over a year before it became available to purchase. For the price of the book, I expected it to be in good shape. However, when I opened it up, the front and back covers were smuggled all over with dark stuff. The book itself did not look like the spine was bent, so I am not sure if this was just due to the way the shipped it (in a cardboard box) or handling when shipping it. I've never had this issue with any books before. Other than that, the book is what I expected - lots of great pictures and a good book for any toddler interested in dump trucks!

Is there anyone better suited to write an authoritative book on tomatoes than Craig LeHoullier, the tomato guy at Seed Savers Exchange? This book contains all the information you could possibly need on choosing and growing heirloom tomatoes.Mr. LeHoullier's writing is a bit stilted but who cares? He knows his stuff. Blame any rough prose on his editors at Storey Publishing. Blame them too for the awful book design. Squint a bit to get past the jarring font and color choices and get on with planning your 2015 garden.I received a review copy of "Epic Tomatoes: How to Select and Grow the Best Varieties of All Time" by Craig LeHoullier (Storey Publishing) through NetGalley.com.

This year, I decided to grow tomatoes (for the first time ever). With all of the info available online, I saw no reason to go in search of books.At the advice of many online experts, I eventually spent quite a ridiculous amount of money on pots, grow boxes, soil amendments, lights... you name it. And -- this should come as no surprise to anyone -- the "experts" all contradicted each other. I followed the advice of one "expert" in my kind of tomato-gardening-difficult area (Pacific Northwest). Bad decision. As a result, I started my tomato seedlings indoors a month too early and six times as many seedlings as I should have started.Eventually, thanks to more online recommendations, I bought a different book (Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades, 35th Anniversary Edition: The Complete Guide to Organic Gardening -- which contained a lot of interesting information, to be sure, but mostly only confused and discouraged me.Then -- again thanks to online recommendations -- I checked this book out of the library.Within two chapters, I knew that I had to buy a copy.I'm now about 2/3 of the way through the book, and it just gets better and better.This book is eminently readable. It answers ALL of my questions. LeHoullier spells out what to do, when to do it, and pros and cons of different approaches -- and explains WHY very clearly with just enough detail to make sense but not enough to have you saying "Enough already" and skipping parts.At this point, thanks entirely to this book, I actually feel like my too-early start will be correctable. (I fixed the "too many" part by giving away dozens of seedlings.) I no longer feel overwhelmed and confused by online "experts" all offering contradictory advice. I only wish I'd bought this book to begin with, because I'd have saved myself a lot of money in unneeded (and, sadly, not returnable) supplies.If you're embarking on a tomato-growing journey -- even if you're not doing it as cluelessly as I started off -- be smarter than I was, do yourself a favor, and start by buying this book. Seriously

This book is wonderful on several levels. First, the visual aspect is simply luscious. Well printed, gorgeous photos of lots of cool varieties of tomatoes that sent me scrambling to order seeds. But the meat of the book is the text, which is thorough, well-written, and contains lots of good info, tips and tricks, as well as history and science. An all around win!

I did not know that tomatoes have such an interesting history, until I read this book. I also thought heirloom varieties were a thing of the past and that hybrids are the best variety. Not so as Craig brings to life the many great varieties he has personally worked with throughout his 35 years of growing experience. This book is complete with history of each heirloom variety he discusses. I really enjoyed the charts and graphs which depict tomato shapes, sizes, yeilds, time to harvest, and flavor. Instructions on how to harvest seeds for future planting, plant diseases and their identification and treatment, as well as tips on preserving your crop are all included. Because of all of this fine information and a great bibliography, I must rate it at a 5. I shall further explain. I bought the Kindle edition. It is tremendous value for the price. The charts, graphs, pictures, and print performed flawlessly. If you desire to to become an heirloom tomato Aficionado this book is a must read. I could not find anything to comment negatively about. Thanks Craig for sharing this information. Mainly out of curiosity I decided to incorporate some heirloom tomato varieties in my garden this year and after reading this book I know I have made the right decision. Looking forward to harvest.

I am on chapter 8 of this book and had to stop and write a review. I love this book. I grew up around gardening, but over the last 5 years it has become my own passion. And in the course of my learning I have decided to try to read a book a month on various garden topics. I’m so glad I bought Epic Tomatoes! I love the tone of the book. Mr. LeHoullier talks with his readers not at them. Though clearly an expert on the topic, he writes as a highly knowledgeable life long learner, rather than a gardening know-it-all. I have loved so many aspects of this book I didn’t even expect to love! Tomato history! The dwarf tomato project! The saving of a single variety of tomato from 100 year old seeds! I can’t wait to finish the book. And as a side note, when a fellow gardener and I had a question I was able to look up the author’s contact information and present a question. He was so, so kind in responding very quickly with a wonderfully helpful and thorough answer and also welcomed any further questions. And on top of all of that, the book is beautifully done. Vivid pictures! Beautiful layout. I cannot say enough about it. I’m so glad I happened upon Epic Tomatoes!

What a great story.

Not what I expected content wise.

This is a terrific book. It gives a great real life example of how it is possible to overcome many obstacles. I have used it to encourage my grandson in believing he can make a difference in his life and at the same time there are NO EXCUSES for failure. Great Pictures, simple text, great message.

Gordon Parks: No Excuses is a wonderful selection to teach self responsibility in an elementary classroom. After reading this book with students, "No excuses" is heard as students deal with their own issues of responsibility during the school year.

This book is not well written or illustrated. My question is why don't the pictures go with the text? It must be a first book for her and I hope her next one will be better. Someone must do a better job of telling the story of the life of this magnificent person and artist. This book left me and the kids I read it to in school unmoved.

Author Ann Parr, tells the perhaps unknown inspirational story of a very well known photographer; writer, poet, and musician Gordon Parks. She does a very good job of not only telling the story of Gordon parks but also getting out the moral of his story.This story my spark the mind of some kid somewhere to pick up a camera and follow a dream and become the next Gordon parks.

Spent about 4 days in Tallinn recently. I like DK guides in general for planning, but rarely take them with me because of weight (and I see their strength as sights, not so much restaurants or hotels.) However, I didn't have a lot of info on Tallinn (a few pages from another guidebook.) So I got this to help me plan...and liked it so much I got the Kindle edition as well to take with me. It was great for 4 days. Tried several of the recommended pubs and restaurants and went to most of the recommended sights in the old town (plus Catherine's Palace and the Open Air Museum.) There was some pretty detailed information which I found helpful (such as the best artwork in St. Nicholas Church.) In general I prefer the "regular" DK guides, but this one worked very well for Tallinn.

I can't get enough of these guides, and the Top 10 series is fantastic. For a trip to Europe where you will be visiting multiple countries, the Top 10 Guide will fit easily into your bag with a couple other books without adding much weight.This guide for Tallinn is a great introduction to the city (as well as the country of Estonia) - it includes a brief history and multiple Top 10 lists. There is one MAIN list of the Top 10 sights in the city, but the guide then goes on to share things like the Top 10 Restaurants in Tallinn or the Top 10 Churches, etc. GREAT purchase.

DK Top 10 is my goto series for any travel destination. It's small enough to carry with you when sightseeing and packed with helpful info in an easy to read format.

This is an excellent travel book it's small and colorful and concise. I did not agree with their top ten restaurant choices and did my own research for hotels but this was well worth the cost.

as always, I love these travel books. If you don't know anything about a location you plan to visit, this is a great place to start.

One of the best guide books I've seen. Very well organized with great maps. Compact size makes is easy to carry. We spent four days in Tallin and used this guide extensively. It's advice on museums, restaurants, cafes, etc. was spot on. 100% recommendation!

Very informative but too short. Should have more interesting places to go.
