not a comprehensive book of practice problems, as i thought it would be. it only uses a few problems to explain general concepts. hard to follow and not what i was looking for.

A nifty explanation of practical graphics programming. Not so long ago (well, the 80s), if you wanted to do computer graphics with, say, a light source and Gourard shading, the only recourse was a $100 000 Evans and Sutherland machine. Plus, any code was in the latter's native graphics library, further increasing your dependence on that company. Along came SGI, who basically then took the workstation graphics market in the 90s.One of the good things SGI did was to promote OpenGL as a set of graphics routines. Gradually, with each iteration of OpenGL, it moved from a dependence on SGI hardware and IRIX (their version of Unix) to a software interface that frees you from a given hardware platform. This, and the sheer functional sweep of the graphics capabilities described in the book, may make OpenGL the easiest way for anyone to learn and apply graphics. The book describes such necessities (which is what these have become nowadays) as texture mapping, NURBS, tesselations and motion blur.The book covers topics up to, but not including, ray tracing. The book is an ideal companion to a pure graphics text, that goes into the theory. The emphasis here is on showing how you can apply that theory, without having to code elementary operations from scratch. The authors do describe some theory, but only the pragmatic minimum necessary to motivate an explanation of the library's routines. In other words, you will not get drowned in maths!

If you want to learn what is openGL and how to create 3d graphics using this library, this book is perfect. But if you need more, such as collision detection, 3d engine design, game programming ..., you should choose another book.

I've bought this book which is good for learning OpenGL 1.4, but be carefull if you want to learn vertex,fragment programs: contrary to what is written on the cover, this book doesn't talk at all about vertex,fragment programs.The sentence "Most importantly, the ARB vertex and fragment program extension is introduced." is an editorial mistake..To learn to program shaders, you'll need another book..

I've bought this book from here because out here in the netherlands it's about $ 44 US more.I'm know at the lightning chapter, and it's quite easy to follow(as 14 year old dutch boy).To bad i don't understand all the mathematic things but that's not really nescary if your not using light.So i recomment this book to evry beginning opengl programmer.

When learning computer graphics, theory relies upon some sort of actual rendering environment to make life a lot easier for the programmer. This text helps to alleviate these problems by making the OpenGL architecture available in a structured way. The most positive aspects of the text are its pure devotion to teaching OpenGL as well as its copious, yet succinct examples provided for the presented topics.The text does not proclaim to be a full text for teaching computer graphics. It claims to be a guide to programming using OpenGL. It completely fulfills that claim. While it does not treat every aspect of OpenGL, the text presents the major topics which are important in writing programs that will render their 3D graphics using OpenGL. It progresses from simple topics through more advanced topics in a seemless way and also is noted in such a way that it functions as an excellent reference when memory alone can not remember syntax for rendering functions.The code provided with the book provides examples of topics that are presented but do not overwhelm the reader. It is an awful thing to buy a book and have it be predominantly code. Everything presented is succinct, expressing only the newly presented facets of OpenGL. This is grand when one wants to see how a given new topic may be implemented.It would probably be best to view this text as an ancillary text for learning computer graphics. It is important to remember that the mathematics and algorithms necessary for thorough graphics simulation are of prime importance. However, after the mathematics and algorithms are known, one must know how to perform the operations necessary to render their worlds in the context of a 3D rendering library. This book allows for learning that for the OpenGL rendering architecture.

This is a concise, easy to read tutorial and reference for OpenGL programmers. The examples are easy to reuse and short enough that they don't bog you down in irrelevant details. The book is well organized. You can read it cover to cover or just skip right to the topic that you're interested in.I found the section on the GLU tessellator invaluable. The chapters on viewing and lighting are the easiest to follow discussions of these topics that I've ever read.Programmers with no previous graphics experience will be able to follow this book and become productive with basic OpenGL operations.My only complaint is that it's not longer. It gives you enough information to get started and complete most tasks but won't answer your very specific questions. But there's plenty of information elsewhere on more advanced topics.

As he described the difference we feel when flopping the nut flush draw in position versus out of position, I could feel that "tinge of tension" and "discomfort" he described (and asks us to think about) as I read along. As he described his almost "unfair" style of play of waiting for straighters and using position, I laughed and thought, heck yeah, what a great way to lighten my mental load.WFS is a must read for anyone with tilt issues. It's become an accountability partner for me. I'm not saying the poker demons won't occasionally hold me in thrall during my poker journey, and I'll certainly get out of line, but I'll have a port in the storm to return to. The concept is genius in its simplicity. Wait for straighters, play in position, reduce pain. Not rocket science but so often forgotten when caught in the rapture of the game.PS: For a real treat, get the Audible version as well.

I was thrilled to be contacted, I’ve been a big fan of his for years and have worked with him on a few projects for his fantastic modern XStitch magazine. Jamie “Mr X Stitch” Chalmers used to have a regular column in CrossStitcher magazine, and his TEDX talk on cross stitch is so good. I knew his book would be good, but I didn’t know how good until I got my copy.  First off, I have to give a shout out to the wonderful photographer Stacy Grant, her photos are so awesome (I’m very jealous and wish I could take such nice photos of my own work). The whole vibe of the book is fun and relaxed, and definitely there’s no trace of being pretentious or “precious” as some craft books can be. Jamie’s personality shines through in his writing, and many times I laughed out loud at the way he phrased something. This section about the back of your work really made me lose it… "There’s a myth going around town, an urban legend that says the back of your work should be as neat as the front. Usually started by a friend of a friend who knew an old lady with loads of cross stitch, who said that unless your back is really tidy, you’ll all be sent to hell and your children will all have gills."But what’s in the book you say? Jamie has done a great job of not only covering the techniques and materials of cross stitch (with really clear photos and easy to understand instructions), but a wide variety of other topics that are part and parcel of stitching. He covers basic colour theory (perfect if you’re wanting to experiment with colours in your projects or make your own), how to frame your projects, and explains how glow in the dark threads are seriously under-utilized and how to use them more easily. He even goes into why stitching is important in our lives, whether it’s purely as a means to relaxation or connecting with our traditions of the past, but also as a means of “craftivism” and making change in your community and society. The book also contains a ton of useful information if you’ve ever considered making your own patterns (including a variety of examples of one pattern produced at different sizes). He also delves into stitching on non-traditional materials, whether that’s by using waste canvas or soluble Aida, or drilling holes into materials like leather, wood, or metal and stitching on that. Jamie also features some really innovative cross stitch designers, and shows how they are pushing the boundaries of this craft. Lord Libidan‘s work in 3D stitching is featured, as is the fantastic metalwork stitched art of Lithuanian artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė (cross stitched car, anyone?). Also featured is embroidery artist Zoe Gilbertson with her beautiful abstract colourful pieces, heavy metal inspired UK designer Kate Blandford, and street installation artists Les Deuz’Bro. Throughout the book, there are sample patterns with full colour photos of the finished projects, and they are labelled according to difficulty level. There is a wide variety of fun projects, from a simple question mark that’s meant to be displayed with the back showing, to a little version of the Mona Lisa. No matter your stitching level, there is something in this book for everyone, and I learned a lot reading it. Jamie is an accomplished and internationally exhibited artist in his own right, and the curator of PUSH Stitchery, part of a series of books published by Lark showcasing the work of contemporary embroidery artists from around the world. He writes articles for textile publications across the world, including Fiber Art magazine and Surface Design Journal and is the founder of the game-changing XStitch cross stitch design magazine. Jamie Chalmers is an active leader in the online stitch community and what he has dubbed the new embroidery movement and is active on various social networking platforms. He is a regular feature at the Knitting and Stitching Shows and The Handmade Fair, appearing alongside craft celebrities like Kirsty Allsopp, Poppy Chancellor, Patrick Grant and Annie Sloan. This book is a complete joy, extremely clear and comprehensive. I took up this craft 12 years ago and still picked up some great tips and ideas. Every stitcher should have this book in their library. Thank you, Mr. X Stitch for this amazing effort.

Bought it last week, read it while relaxing but too tired to stitch, and that alone was worth the price of admission. The writing is witty and informative and the designs are beautiful, witty and look doable with the instructions provided. I'm delighted to have bought this gift for myself.

Great book with lots of great tips for beginners. Not as many charts as I was hoping it would have, but the tips and pointers and explanations of things more than make up for it. The charts that are included are great, high-quality, and very interesting. If you're looking for a book to get a beginner, GET THIS ONE!

I love this book! It’s a perfect introduction to how to cross stitch and to the possibilities of what one can make with cross stitch. Easy to understand and tons of gorgeous photos/patterns. I highly recommend this book! The designs are very inspiring.

I can't imagine giving this book a negative review. It's absolutely wonderful! I can't wait to make Mona Lisa and the pineapple. Red work inside of letters, a retro pattern, geek stuff, stitching on metal! Who knew there was glow in the dark thread? The framing info is so helpful. I always struggle with that part. Don't hesitate to buy It!

Another great story, I was a little disappointed when it end . I just wanted it to continue. I can't wait for the next book about the wagon train mail order brides. Just keep writing good enjoyable books. I have read all of your books.

This was a sweet fast story,but I wanted more. There should have been an epilogue or more. I hate it when the story keeps me hanging

A great book to read and enjoy historical western romance kindle book from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me wondering what next for the characters. A young woman who had her horses stolen went in search of them. A man tried to stop her but she couldn't let him and faced the dangers trying to locate them.

Callie and Lee's story is another Must-Read in the, Sweetheart of the Ranch series. I highly recommend this book. Callie is a very strong heroine and Lee is a great hero. They are so perfect for one another. Thank you Rosealee Adams!

Sallie is headstrong and quite determined once she sets her course. Lee is her hero in every way including romance.

Callie came all this way to find her horses, but she didn’t expect to find a husband too! Lee was not getting married he only want run his ranch and horses! Oh boy what did happened is so good! Enjoy!
